THE COME UP, 11/29 at the Terrace in Pasadena!

Even though its Thanksgiving weekend, The Come Up is still the place to be after your Thanksgiving feast. I am flying back from San Francisco and Dumlao is driving back from Santa Barbara early so that we could be with all of you and make you guys groove all night long as we do every month. Resident Linotype will be there, as always, with another once in a lifetime killer set that will make your knees shiver while you sway from side to side with your hands in the air like a criminal. Guest DJ Rani D will also be providing some kicks, snares, melodies, and lyrics that will attack that part of your brain that just makes your head bob uncontrollably to the beat.

Come out and burn them Thanksgiving calories off right. We got free entry (before 10:30). We got cheap drinks. We got great DJs. We got great music. We got great people (you, him and her). We got a party all night long. What more can you ask for? Can’t wait to see you all there.

Change It Up

It’s been a crazy week in politics, entertainment, and the economy.  I’m not quite sure how we should take it; should we be happy for a new President as our economy begins to decline?  Or should we be cautious about the future of this country and prepare for something unexpected?  When I chanted in the streets of Century City on November 4, cheered on with protesters holding “No on Prop 8″ signs in Silverlake, and listened to my friends finally talk about how this country is/isn’t working, I realize that we’re all about to embark on a new era.

And with that, The Come Up Crew has found a new energy to feed off of; a new attitude to utilize; a new crowd to entertain.  I think people are done with played-out bullshit, they’re sick of the same old thing, and ready for something fresh and new; we’re here to feed that hunger.  Whether it be refreshing beats and music, original parties with a mix of different people, or multi-faceted events providing more than just music, we’re bringing change not only to our shows, but also to our mindsets and attitudes towards celebrating the one thing we’re sometimes oblivious to: life.

It’s an exciting time, a time for us to actually do something different.  We’re here to help you stray from the norm, experience a brand new way of partying, and enjoy a fresh style of entertainment.  Away from velvet ropes, pretentious door girls, long lines, and rude bouncers, The Come Up believes in having fun without discrimination, dancing without boundaries, socializing without criticism, partying with no worries.  We want to play music that makes you move your body yet appreciate the sound; we want to throw a party that provides more than just drinking and dancing, but for people who just want to have fun and experience new things; we want to have an environment that allows you to be YOU, and applauds anyone who gets buck and acknowledges those just bobbing their heads.

We can either live like we have, or change towards a new lifestyle.  I think it’s time to put a lot of our egos aside, shed the shyness, look across the room and appreciate the fact that every person is hustlin and struggling just like you, but they also want to enjoy life as much as you do.  Let’s start a new community of party goers, develop a unique attitude of posivitiy and change, help each other feel good about ourselves, and celebrate like we are the bringers of a new world, catalysts to a new movement, the light creeping up from the horizon to a new day.  So throw on your favorite threads, strap on your dopest kicks, jump into your ride with your crew, and make your way to the Come Up.  We’re waiting…

Peace =)

The Future Looks Bright…as told by Spingineer

With success steadily building at The Terrace in Pasadena, The Come Up crew plans to start parties in Los Angeles and Hollywood to compliment the great foundation that has been built at The Terrace.  We are in the works of scoring a popular lounge in Hollywood that holds a very popular party on Saturdays.  The problem is that the popular party will be moving to another club in about a month which somewhat takes away some opportunity for pop ins who trust the lounge cause of the great parties on other nights.  This is fine.  It just means we got to work harder to get people there and show them a fucking great time. If we get this lounge it would be second and forth Sundays. We would have to meet a pretty high minimum at the bar which would be really hard to do on a Sunday and we would have back to back gigs with The Come Up at The Terrace some months. This can pose a problem since we want all attendees to be at both parties.

I usually don’t have success in getting people to my gigs.  My family is all in the Bay, my friends from college all live in Long Beach and Orange county, and my co-workers are not really into what we deliver at The Come Up (sorry, they’re engineers).  I can’t even get my own girlfriend to come every time.  She only comes to support me and not I’m not to sure it is for the music. Maybe she is there to see all the eye candy (I’m talking about our DJs btw). Even though my friends hardly come out for whatever reasons, everyone I know that has came to The Come Up loved it.  The only complaints I ever had were the broken A/C at the Terrace, which is now fixed.  I also got feedback from some gay friends that are a couple that didn’t feel like they could get out on the dance floor without making others feel uncomfortable.  I really don’t want anyone to ever feel uncomfortable.  We are there to rock a party and we want our attendees, of every race, sexual orientation, height, IQ level, tax bracket, and so on, to feel free to get down and let their inhibitions dissipate into the rhythm and rhymes.

Myself and Dumlao are also in the process of starting The Come Up podcast which will probably run every two weeks.  It will consist of mixes of different types of genres that will undoubtedly cause you to bob your head and tap your feet.  Future podcasts will feature other Come Up DJs as well as guest DJs.
